1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in
view of God’s mercy, to offer your
bodies as living sacrifices, holy and
pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act
of worship.
2 Do not conform any longer to the
pattern of this world, but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind. Then you
will be able to test and approve what
God’s will is–his good, pleasing and
perfect will.

Reflections on Romans 12:2
In this passage, God’s word illuminates the crucial need for us to break free from the worldly patterns that surround us. This urgency is further emphasized in 1 John 5:19, which states, “the whole world is under the control of the evil one.” James 4:4 also warns us that “anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”
Given these reminders, it becomes clear that we must seek purification and renewal through God’s word, which contains with His Holy Spirit. The path to this renewal lies in our continual pursuit of God’s wisdom and in setting our “minds on things above, not on earthly things” as it says in Colossians 3:2.
